From photography to music, Sask’s Andrea An is making waves in the arts scene (AUDIO)

From visual arts to performing arts and everything in between, Saskatchewan has an abundance of talented citizens within its borders and country music newcomer Andrea An is no exception. She recently released a new duet with fellow Saskatchewan performer Ches Anthony titled “Wanting You.” The song stems from a very personal experience for the singer.

“When I was in college I was in a long distance relationship and the song is really just about making every second count when you’re in a long distance relationship,” noted An.

The singer felt it needed another voice to complete the song, so she asked Ches Anthony to join her on the track because she felt he was a very talented artist and would be a good fit on the song.

“He took a listen to it and said he loved it as well,” she explained.

An is a noted photographer for the Saskatchewan Country Music Association Awards for the past three years and through interactions with the organization and fellow artists she’s developed a new passion for the music genre.

“I really appreciate the fact that everyone is very family oriented,” said An who admits family is very important to her. “With that, I started listening to a lot more country music over the past three years so that’s how all that started.

An is a Vietnamese Canadian who is fiercely proud of her culture and recorded a traditional Vietnamese song earlier this year in Vietnamese while wearing traditional clothing. She concedes she was slightly nervous and hesitant about the project because it was one of her parents favourite songs. An says she’s proud of the song because it turned out exceptionally well.

“My Dad wouldn’t stop listening to it and my Mom shared it with all her friends on Facebook. It was really funny,” chuckled An.
