Carbon Monoxide safety at the forefront as winter sets in

With colder temperatures upon us, furnaces are running much more often.

Because of that, Carbon Monoxide safety is front and centre for SaskEnergy, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and SaskPower.

C-O detectors have saved many lives over the years.

SaskEnergy’s Casey McLeod says C-O detectors need to be replaced every seven to ten years with expiration dates on the back.

“Even if they’re not expired, it’s always good to make sure that you’re testing them out, making sure that the batteries are still working,” said McLeod. “To help people with that, if they need to replace their C-O alarm, SaskEnergy is offering a $10 rebate at participating stores.”

Carbon Monoxide is colorless and odorless.

One the gas is inhaled it prevents red blood cells from getting the oxygen they need.
