The Western Canadian Crop Production Show has been cancelled for 2021.
In a statement the WCCP says with the continued presence of Covid-19, the very difficult decision to not hold the event at Prairieland Park in January was made in consultation with the Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Authority. They say the focus is on the safety and health of their many staff, event patrons and the exhibitors and sponsors that attend the show – many of whom have been there for all 37 years of the Crop production show.
Lori Cates, Agriculture Manager with Prairieland Park, says they held out hope they would be able to move forward with the show, but given the current situation with COVID-19, it became clear that it would not be in the best interest to try and proceed. Cates explains planning started in July with applications being accepted, but as planning continued there were quite a few cancellations from large corporate exhibitors who were affected by the travel ban. She says this played a factor in the decision to cancel, and with the reputation of the show the past 37 years, doing a half, partial or virtual show wasn’t something they wanted to consider.
The show, along with other agriculture organizations, welcomes producers from across the prairies to Saskatoon, to view the latest in farm equipment and technology. It has also been a meeting place for business and the agriculture community alike. Strategically placed in January, the show highlights the most advanced technology and products for farmers as they plan for the upcoming growing season. Seminars and meetings held throughout the city commonly feature experts in agronomy, research and business information. It had been scheduled for January 11-14th
The focus now moves to 2022, Cates says she will be in touch with the exhibitors to begin planning once again in July. The Western Canadian Crop Production Show is now scheduled for January 10th to the 13th in 2022.
