CFIB calls on federal-provincial agriculture ministers to improve agristability

The CFIB is calling on the federal- provincial agriculture ministers to make major improvements to farm business risk programs like agristability.

The ministers hold a virtual meeting on Friday.

CFIB vice president Marilynn Braun-Pollon says agriculture can play a critical role in Canada’s economic recovery from COVID-19 but business risk programs must be more responsive.

Braun-Pollon suggests the agristabiilty reference margin be restored to 85 percent from the current 70 percent.

The agriculture ministers hold meetings this Friday and a week later in a virtual format.

Braun-Pollon also suggests agriculture ministers focus on trade and market access and freeze federal carbon taxes and exempt natural gas, propane and aviation fuel used for farming.
