Prairie Valley makes masks mandatory across all grades, postpones extra-curricular activities

Masks are now mandatory for all grades within the Prairie Valley School Division. This means the masking protocol will now include students in Pre-kindergarten to Grade 3.

The announcement was made on Friday afternoon following a decision  by the Prairie Valley Board of Education and senior administration.

“This change follows the provincial announcement on November 17, which increased the measures across the province in order to slow the spread of COVID-19, including mandatory masks in all public spaces,” stated the school division in a release.

“The safety of all students, staff and the broader community remains the top priority for the Prairie Valley Board of Education and senior administration. This change in protocol is a proactive measure to ensure Prairie Valley schools remain open, safe and operational.”

In addition, Prairie Valley is postponing all extra-curricular activities until January 4, 2021 due to rising number of COVID-19 cases and the additional public health measures including a reduction in private gatherings and physical distancing limitations for fitness facilities.

“Administration acknowledges these changes may be challenging for some,” the statement continues. “We must all do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19 so our students can continue learning in our schools.”
