Hundreds gather at Sask. Legislature to protest mask mandates

Hundreds of people from around the province gathered at the Saskatchewan Legislature to protest the government’s mask mandate.

The rally was part of several “Freedom Convoys” departing from places like Saskatoon, Weyburn, Swift Current, and Yorkton.

While cries of “We Want Freedom” and “No Moe Masks” rang out, people took to the microphone to voice their displeasure of public health guidelines put in place by the province.

Mark Friesen, organizer of the rally, said that he was pleased with the turnout of the rally, adding people for the most part were respectful. Friesen pointed to one rather angry and divisive speech that put the crowd on edge.

Friesen says people like that are harmful to the narrative the group is trying to push. He adds people on both sides need to be respectful of one another because it leads to harmful miscommunication and hatred.

As a result of the rally, two people have been issued tickets for disobeying public health orders. The tickets carry a $2800 fine.

The group is planning on hosting rallies weekly until they feel their message is heard.
