Sask farmers voice more opposition to revamped federal carbon tax

Saskatchewan farmers are voicing opposition to Ottawa’s revamped carbon tax.

The tax is $30/ton, will rise $10 next year and again in 2022.

After that, the annual hike will be $15, bringing the carbon tax to $170/ton by 2030.

Saskatchewan Stock Growers President Kelcy Elford says the carbon tax puts farmers at a competitive disadvantage in the world market.

Elford says the carbon tax is unacceptable and bad for trade and will push business out of Canada.

Elford says farming practices are a net benefit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and farmers should be compensated for it.
