Despite pandemic, dry weather, 2020 was a great crop year

The chair of SaskWheat says 2020 was an interesting and challenging year.

Brett Halstead farms at Nokomis and says grain movement has been going well, partly because of less movement of other freight during the pandemic.

He adds grain prices are on the rise.

“They definitely have come up since late summer and through harvest,” said Halstead. “There are a number of factors such as international demand for our products.”

Halstead adds 2020 was a surprising year for crop production.

Despite dry weather, he says most farmers had a good crop, due in part to improved varieties and farming methods.
