Seven new COVID-19 related deaths, 332 new cases Saturday

Seven more Saskatchewan residents have died from COVID-19.

Of the deaths, four were located in the north central zone, including three residents in the 80+ age category and one in the 70-79 age category. Two deaths were located in Regina region, including one resident in the 80+ category, and another who was 60-69 in age. The south east zone reported one death in the 50-59 age category.

The COVID-19 death toll in Saskatchewan now sits at 184.

The province also reported 332 new cases of COVID-19:

  • South Central (8)

Nineteen new cases are pending location.

Three duplicate cases have been removed from the province’s count. There have been a total of 17,803 cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan.

The province announced 189 new recoveries Saturday, bringing the total amount of recoveries up to 14,426. The active case count now sits at 3,186.

There are 179 patients in hospital with COVID-19, including 149 patients receiving inpatient care. Forty-six of those patients are in Saskatoon, 38 in Regina, and 29 in the north central. Inpatient care cases are also located in the south east (11), north west (9), central east (9), north east (3), and south central (2). There are 30 patients in ICU in Saskatchewan with COVID-19, 13 of those cases are in Regina, 9 in Saskatoon, 5 in the north central zone, 2 in the central east and one in the north west.

There were 3,049 COVID-19 tests completed on Friday, Jan. 8. A total of 448,217 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan.

COVID-19 vaccine delivery closing in on 7,000

A total of 6,964 COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered in Saskatchewan. That includes a total of 5,136 first doses of the Pfizer vaccine, 788 second doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and 1,040 doses of the Moderna vaccine.

Vaccine programs in the far north portions of Saskatchewan continue as more Moderna vaccines continue to arrive in the province, while doses of the Pfizer vaccine are being issued in Prince Albert. The next community to see Pfizer vaccine doses will be North Battleford.

The first phase of the COVID-19 vaccine delivery plan sees health care workers working in ICU’s, COVID-19 units, and testing centres receive the vaccine, as well as residents of long-term care homes.
