Regina music artist highlights local music and restaurants through online series

Regina musician JJ Voss is doing his part in promoting local music, pubs and restaurants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the last few weeks, Voss has been hosting a live online series weekly called “Live and Local Wednesdays” where he plays music, interviews local musicians and promotes local restaurants and pubs. Some of the guests he’s had on the show include Saskatchewan musicians Jack Semple, Chris Henderson and Justin Labrash.

When speaking to Cody Glydon on the 620 CKRM, he said it’s an opportunity for fellow musicians to get some exposure in tough times.

“You do what you gotta do,” Voss told Glydon. “I guess one of the positives to come from the pandemic is that we have to think outside of the box and be willing to try anything.”

Voss acknowledges that 2020 was a difficult year for many in the province including musicians and restaurants in the area. He’s making an effort to support both industries, while having fun playing his guitar, through his online shows. (Photo: JJ Voss/Facebook)

Voss admitted it’s different playing music without a live audience, but he suggested it’s an important step he has chosen to take to help businesses affected by COVID-19.

“There are a lot of small businesses that are really hurting because of the Walmarts, Amazons and that type of thing,” he explained. “The thought process behind putting together this show is to really promote local entrepreneurs that are doing whatever it takes to keep the lights on and keep the wheels turning.”

One of the ways he works to highlight local eateries is by hosting his online shows between Regina’s Rochdale Roca House and Pilot Butte’s Broncos Pub and Grill.

Voss’ shows can be found on his social media pages.
