City crews are prepared and ready to go to work over the next couple days with strong winds, rain and snow hitting the Queen City.
Tyler Bien, manager roadways and seasonal operations with the city, said on Wednesday afternoon that winds of a 100 km/h along with a few centimetres of snow is a mix for dangerous driving conditions.
He noted how workers have been making available to provide plowing and ice control services.
“The city and its contractor support is prepared with upwards of 50 pieces of equipment to provide any snow clearing or ice control needs that make themselves present through this storm,” said Bien.

He mentioned how the city focuses on high speed roads, high priority intersections, emergency routes and roads with the greatest volumes during snow events.
While crews are working to complete their tasks over the next several hours, Bien reminded drivers to slow down near city vehicles and machinery.
“The sand and the salt will stick to the roads. The 100 km/h winds will blow snow on top of that, but we routinely cycle the high speed roads and major intersections to reapply any sand or salt that might be needed.”
According to the Regina Police Service, as of 4:25 p.m. on Wednesday there were no injury collisions in the span of 24 hours. There had been seven collisions with property resulting in vehicle or other damages which occurred between 11:29 a.m. and 1:01 p.m. when the city was experiencing rainfall and warmer temperatures.
Snow routes in effect Thursday
The city has activated its snow routes beginning Thursday at 6:00 a.m. and ending on Friday at 6:00 a.m.
This means there is no on-street parking along roads identified as snow routes for a 24-hour period to allow crews to plow roads from curb to curb. Snow routes are identified by blue signs showing a white snowflake.
Residents can look up where snow routes are located throughout the city on the city’s website.
