Sask. seeks federal-provincial agriculture ministers meeting to further discuss agristability

Saskatchewan’s minister of Agriculture is seeking another meeting with his federal and provincial counterparts to discuss Agristability.

Ottawa is pushing for a response to an offer to enhance the farm business risk program.

Saskatchewan is concerned about the cost.

The assistant agriculture deputy minister for policy in Saskatchewan, Paul Johnson, says the province wants another federal-provincial minister’s meeting to discuss the issue.

The federal proposal would remove the reference margin limit and increase the compensation rate from 70 to 80 percent.

Federal agriculture minister Marie-Claude Bibeau is willing to hold another federal-provincial meeting on the issue but remains firm on the 60-40 federal provincial cost-share.
