Federal Agriculture Minister Bibeau offers quick meeting to discuss Agristability

Canada’s minister of Agriculture is offering to hold a meeting with provincial agriculture ministers within weeks to discuss agristability.

The proposal would remove the reference margin limit and increase the compensation rate from 70 to 80 percent.

The Saskatchewan government is looking at an offer to improve agristability but worries about the high cost and is seeking another meeting.

Marie-Claude Bibeau is willing to hold a quick meeting but wants a speedy decision in hopes of making the program retroactive to 2020.

Bibeau remains firm on the usual 60-40 federal-provincial cost-share, pointing out the support stays in the province where it is paid out.
