Federal Agriculture minister Marie-Claude Bibeau says its time to talk about mental health and farm stress.
She says there has been no shortage of stress on the farm this past year and farming is a 7 day a week job and farmers often feel isolated.
She says mental health is not a taboo topic and encourages farmers to contact a friend, neighbor or distant relative to talk about life.
She suggests using social media to break the stigma, saying every action counts.
She says mental health is often discussed at conferences of professional associations in the agricultural sector.
Bibeau is inviting farmers and food sector workers to learn about Farm Credit Canada’s Rooted In Strength initiative, designed to help access mental health resources in most rural areas.
