About 58 per cent of Regina residential streets cleared of snow

The City of Regina says approximately 58 per cent of residential streets have been plowed through the city’s residential snow plow schedule.

With a few days to go, Chris Warren, director of roadways and transportation with the city, encouraged people to find alternatives for parking on days their area is scheduled for plowing. One of his suggestions is for people to have a neighbour offer up their driveway so they can park their vehicle off the street.

Although he understands there may be challenges for some people who do not have any other options.

“If that’s not something they can do very easily, crews will plow around parked cars, but obviously it takes away some of the efficiencies and effectiveness of the work we’re trying to do,” explained Warren on Monday.

For citizens who have had snowplows come through their area already, some may be wondering if there are any plans to remove extra snow ridges left over on the side of roads.

Warren said the city does not currently have the budget or resources to remove additional ridges off residential streets.

“Our resources right now are obviously going to the snow removal, opening transit stops, ice control with some of the thaw and freeze cycles we’re experiencing with the high and low temperatures,” added Warren.

“Normally we wouldn’t go back to remove the snow on residential roads. If there’s a situation where a road is blocked or inaccessible, that might be a circumstance that we would take a look at. But primarily for most of the residential roads we would plow those roads, place the snow in the parking lanes and move beyond that.”
