After spending two terms as vice-president of towns for the Municipalities of Saskatchewan, Naicam mayor Rodger Hayward is the organization’s new president.
Hayward, who has been the mayor of Naicam since 2000, defeated current president Gordon Barnhart at the group’s convention which is happening virtually this week.
Barnhart has been under fire since it was learned last month that he has been living in Hawaii with his wife for the past several months.
They were the only two vying for the position.
Municipalities of Saskatchewan’s towns and villages, resort villages, and northern municipal sectors also elected their sector representatives. Nipawin Mayor Rennie Harper will serve as the new Vice-President of Towns, and incumbent Mike Strachan, Mayor of Torquay, will continue to serve as Vice-President of Villages, Resort Villages, and Northern Municipalities.
Hayward, Harper, and Strachan will begin their four-year terms following the conclusion of Municipalities of Saskatchewan 2021 Virtual Convention and Tradeshow on February 10.
