An investigation is underway after a 38-year-old inmate died Monday afternoon  at the Regina Correctional Centre.

The inmate was found in medical distress in a holding cell in the admissions area. While calls were made immediately, attempts by EMS to save the man were unsuccessful.

The death is not COVID-19 related.

The name of the person has not been released, but his next of kin have been notified.
