The Fire Chief for Grand Coulee is one of many people raising concern over the possibility of losing the Regina International Airport’s air traffic control tower.
Jim Pratt says air traffic is a serious concern for Grand Coulee.
“With planes taking off and landing directly over us, if we don’t have proper controls, especially with civilian flights and commercial flights verging together, it could put us in the crosshairs of a very dangerous situation,” said Pratt.
Pratt says planes will sometimes fly so close to the town, residents can see landing gear come down ahead of the tarmac in Regina. This comes as NAV Canada is reviewing several towers across the country, including the YQR tower.
Several political figures, including Premier Scott Moe and Regina Mayor Sandra Masters, have called on the federal government and NAV Canada to keep the tower open.
