The Regina Police Service says there will be no charges resulting from a fatal collision last November when a 21 year-old woman was killed after being struck by an excavator on the 4500 block of Albert Street on the city’s south side.
“After consultation with the Crown, investigators have concluded that the collision was not the result of a criminal or unlawful act,” states RPS in a news release on Tuesday. “Investigators have met with the victim’s family in order to answer questions and explain the processes in the investigation that led to this conclusion.”
The incident happened on Nov. 4 at approximately 7:43 a.m. Police received reports of a collision where a large, earth-moving vehicle owned by the city and operated by a city employee had struck a pedestrian in the curb lane on the west side of the 4500 block of Albert Street near the Save-On-Foods grocery store.
The victim was walking east across the street when she was hit. She was confirmed dead at the scene by EMS.
Officers located the driver of the vehicle a short time later who had carried on for a while after the collision.
Since the incident, the city announced they will be installing pedestrian lights at the intersection which will include lit-up crosswalk signs and push buttons on both sides of the street. The project is expected to be completed sometime in the spring.
