CUPE hoping to see province include education workers in Phase 1 of vaccine plan

CUPE is expressing concerns after front line education workers were left out of the provincial government’s latest COVID-19 vaccination plan update.

Chair of the Education Workers Steering Committee for CUPE, Rob Westfield, says many front line education workers are around children on a regular basis who in turn have their own bubbles.

“Not only do we have to deal with our own family bubbles,” said Westfield. “If there’s 32 kids in a classroom, you’re dealing with their 32 bubbles, and it just compounds from there.”

Westfield says their feelings extend beyond the education field to all front line workers that cannot do their jobs from home.

He added it would have been beneficial if the government took up the militaries offer to distribute and administer vaccine.
