Manitoba man behind Rideau Hall attack to be sentenced in March

A Manitoba man who rammed through a gate at Rideau Hall and headed on foot toward Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s home at Rideau Cottage will be sentenced on March 10.

Forty-six-year-old Corey Hurren has pleaded guilty to eight charges related to the incident at Rideau Hall last July.

His lawyer says Hurren was a hardworking member of society before the COVID-19 pandemic caused him to face difficulties and depression.

The defence is seeking a sentence of three years.

The Crown is asking for six years minus time served.
