Council says no to redeveloping heritage property

Plans for a developer to turn a home that has been designated as a heritage property into a condo complex has been rejected by Regina City Council.

At a special meeting on Thursday, council unanimously voted to turn down applications by Carmen Lien on the Cook Residence. Lien had wanted to transform the home into a 16 unit condo complex.

Before making their decision, Council heard from several delegations who were against the proposal and several who were in favour of it.

If Lien had been allowed to go ahead with his plans to renovate the house, some of it would have been demolished, but the majority of the building’s facade would have remained as would have half the home’s interior.
