Regina Humane Society welcomes donations of unwanted vehicles

Residents looking to get rid of vehicles or boats which no longer function or still run may be interested in donating them to the Regina Humane Society (RHS).

The process is ran on behalf of the humane society by Donate a Car Canada where people can donate vehicles to be sold for either scrap or at auctions. The money generated from these sales then goes to support the Regina Humane Society.

“It varies from year to year, but the average donation we have received is about $200,” explained Bill Thorn, director of marketing and public relations with RHS. “It depends on the vehicle and what kind of revenue Donate a Car Canada can generate from that.”

RHS has been a part of the program for about the last decade according to Thorn. He said they average about 10 of these types of donations per year.

“Convenience and ease is paramount here,” he added. “If you have ever had an old vehicle sitting on the side of the road or you just need to get rid of it and trading it is not what you’re looking for, this solves that problem. You just go online, fill out a form and answer a few questions.”

Thorn added that it’s a win-win situation because donors may receive a tax receipt towards their income tax return based on revenue generated from the donation.
