Spring is on the way as Milky Way opens its door

Thursday marks the unofficial start of spring in Regina, as Milky Way Ice Cream opened its doors.

Co-owners Anne and Carole Boldt are excited to open for their 41st season, despite the chilly weather.

“We don’t mind at all,” said Anne. “We’re just so excited about seeing our customers, and we know the weathers going to get better.”

Milky Way has become cemented in the culture of the Queen City, and the sisters-in law say they are just as excited today as they were the first day.

Reflecting on the past four decades, Carole says there are some reasons for their continued success.

“Milky Way is a tradition, and we’re known mostly for our soft ice cream,” said Carole. “It’s just such quality ice cream. We hand out a nice, large quantity as a treat, and hopefully we’ve done that with a smile.”

Through the years, the Boldts say they’ve seen people turn coming to the Milky Way into a social event.

“I really do think a lot of customers come out there to visit with everybody else,” said Anne, “It makes us very happy to see them do that.”

Milky Way’s first flavour of the day is pistachio, and they’re open until 9:00 pm
