Traffic stop near Francis leads to firearms charges for man

Regina Police say a traffic stop conducted on Highway 33 near Francis, has lead to a 23-year-old man facing numerous traffic and firearms related charges.

RPS. say on Wednesday, their traffic unit was on Highway 33 heading towards Regina, when a vehicle passed them travelling at a high rate of speed and with broken tail lights.

Police pulled the vehicle over, and noticed an open box of beer in the back seat. When officers examined further, they noticed a firearm in the vehicle, which upon further inspection, was confirmed to be loaded.

A quantity of cannabis was also found.

As a result, 23-year-old Colby Bridgeman was charged with SOTs for speeding, consuming alcohol in a vehicle, consuming cannabis in a vehicle, as well as receiving warnings for having broken tail lights.

Bridgeman was charged criminally with unauthorized possession of a firearm and careless storage of a firearm.

Officers say Bridgeman was released on an undertaking and will appear in a Weyburn courtroom April 27.

Francis is about 67 kilometres southeast of Regina.
