Farm survey designed to increase prairie crop production released by WGRF

A farm survey on trends in agriculture points to crop and soil management and precision farming.

The executive director of the Western Grains Research Foundation, Garth Patterson, says the survey was designed to target future research in areas of greatest farmer concern.

He says producers generally feel farms will be getting larger and research is important.

He says farmers are looking at sustainable crop production and precision farming for future research.

The survey was conducted from January to March and included 187 researchers and farmers from across the prairies.

Patterson says the grains research foundation will hold a series of workshops this year to determine the best way forward for future crop research.

The foundation spends 10 to 15 million dollars a year.
