Provincial unemployment rate unchanged

The provincial unemployment rate stayed at 7.3 percent in March.

While full-time employment fell by 1,900 positions in March, there were 1,900 part-time jobs created.

Employment was up in health care, construction and social assistance while losses were recorded in the food services and accommodation sectors.

When you go back a year ago to when the impacts of COVID-19 were first being felt, the province is behind by around 23,000 jobs.

The news comes as Stats Canada says the economy added over 300-thousand jobs with the national rate going to 7.5 percent which is down from February’s number of 8.2 percent
