World men’s curling event currently on ice because of COVID-19

The world men’s curling championship has been put on hold as the event reaches the playoff stage.  After games Friday night, positive tests for COVID-19 were announced.

The World Curling Federation and Curling Canada says the positive results of two competitors came during exit testing, which was conducted in order for curlers to fly to their home countries after being eliminated.

In a press release, Curling Canada said all teams that made the playoffs will undergo testing on Saturday morning, and until the results are clear and it’s known that the players and event staff are safe, no further games will be played.

Several events in the Calgary bubble including the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Tim Hortons Brier had been run without problem since it opened in mid-February.

The worlds are scheduled to end Sunday with a Grand Slam event and the women’s worlds to follow.
