REAL wants increased foot traffic and economic opportunity on Evraz Place grounds

If all goes well, the days of coming to Evraz Place for an event and leaving the grounds without stopping to see what else is available will be coming to an end.

The Regina Exhibition Association Limited is looking for places to call what is affectionately known as “the campus” as a home for retail businesses like restaurants.

REAL President and CEO Tim Reid says they are taking 10 acres of land and offering it for commercial ventures.

Reid says the goal is to make people want to come to Evraz Place for more than just a football or hockey game..

“Before a hockey practice or after, a family will go for dinner or stop at a retail store to get something that is needed.” Reid said. “How do we extend Rider fans to stay at the campus before and after games or coming before a Pats game and having dinner before heading to the Brandt Centre.”

Reid feels if this is done right, it will support the plans the city has when it comes to connecting the city centre to Evraz Place and the redevelopment of Taylor Field.
