SaskTel working to resolve recent string of scam calls

SaskTel says it is actively working to resolve scam calls being received by many residents over the last couple days.

“We are aware of a recent increase in the amount of scam calls originating from international locations and are actively working to block as many of these calls as possible,” stated SaskTel in a release on Tuesday morning.

The Crown corporation is advising the public to ignore and to not call back unexpected calls from international locations. If a call is answered, residents are told to hang up immediately.

“These types of calls are truly a national issue, impacting people and communications providers all across the country. The majority of nuisance calls, including scams, are generated by computer-dialers that enable spammers to dial many numbers at once,” explained SaskTel.

SaskTel is currently working with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and others in their industry to find solutions to this issue. Residents are encouraged to report scam calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by visiting their website or contacting them by phone at 1-888-495-8501.
