The Saskatchewan Health Authority has adjusted family presence and visitation in long-term care homes in Regina and surrounding communities.
Long-term care facilities in the area are currently under SHA Level 3 Family Presence, meaning two family or support members can be present at the same time for end-of-life care only. An essential family or support person cane be designated to assist with care if needed, including self-care, mobility, nutrition and behavioural needs.
However as of Wednesday, outdoor visits in Regina, Emerald Park, Lumsden and Cupar care homes are permitted up to two family or support people from the same household at one time. This applies to facilities not in an outbreak.
“The decision to restrict family presence is not taken lightly,” reads a statement by the SHA on Wednesday. “These measures are in place to keep you, your loved ones and healthcare workers safe. The Saskatchewan Health Authority is asking the public for their support and cooperation in order to contain the spread of the virus.”
Visitors are reminded to adhere to the following rules during visits:
- Keep two metres distance at all times and wear a mask.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Do not touch your eyes, nose, mouth or mask with unwashed hands.
- Stay home if you are unwell; seek healthcare services when you require medical help.
- Regularly monitor your health for any COVID-19 symptoms.
Local medical health officers will continue to review family presence and visitation restrictions weekly and will advise when care homes can begin allowing increased visitation levels.
