SARM welcomes funding for rural road re-building

SARM president Ray Orb welcomes this year’s funding for the province’s Rural Integrated Roads for Growth Program.

The Saskatchewan government has announced 25.7 million dollars for this year’s Rural Integrated Roads for Growth program.

A total of 69 R.M.’s will receive funding for rural road improvements under the program.

The program helps RM’s with upgrading infrastructure to support local industries like agriculture, energy and forestry.

The grant program covers up to 50 percent of total project cost, to a maximum of 500 thousand dollars.

SARM president Ray Orb says economic recovery and funding to stimulate the economy remains critical and the increased funding ensures support for Saskatchewan’s rural-based industries.

The budget of 15 million dollars has been augmented by additional spending to help the government goal of re-building 100 roads over 3 years.

Over the 3 phases, there have been 219 road projects approved, valued at 234 million dollars with 55 million dollars in provincial support.

The Saskatchewan government is improving more than 13 hundred 50 kilometers of provincial highways this year, the second year of a 10 year plan to upgrade 10 thousand kilometers of highways.
