Power slowly returning to those without following Thursday night’s icestorm

SaskPower crews continue trying to restore service to those who lost it because of Thursday night’s icestorm with an estimated 1,800 still without electricity.

In a release issued Saturday afternoon, SaskPower says crews have been brought in from other parts of the province to assist in the damage assessment and repair in the Yorkton and Melville areas and that if all goes well, a majority of damage caused to lines will be repaired by Saturday evening.

Crews were able to restore power to the town of Qu’Appelle last night around 1:30 a.m.

Customers are reminded to, at this time, only call theOutage Centre to report downed lines and other damaged infrastructure. If a customer needs to report no power at their residence, they can do so on SaskPower’s website.

The risk of downed lines is still very real, and so if anyone comes across a downed power line, or any other damaged SaskPower infrastructure, they are reminded to stay back at least 10m (or about 33 feet) and call the Outage Centre at 310-2220
