The non-profit group Cleanfarms says Saskatchewan producers are recycling more and more plastic containers.
Western region business manager, Shane Hedderson, says the 2020 annual report shows a significant rise in the amount of discarded plastic farm chemical containers going to collection locations for recycling.
He adds the grain bag recycling program is very popular in Saskatchewan.
“We’ve seen collection numbers actually double from 2018, when the program started, to 2020,” said Hedderson. “Last year, there was over 2500 metric tonnes of grain bags that were collected in Saskatchewan alone, so huge numbers.”
Hedderson says Cleanfarms collected over 5.5 million fertilizer and pesticide jugs last year across Canada.
