Regina police will lay charges on a man involved in a hit and run collision on Sunday morning.

RPS say the incident originally happened at around 3:30 a.m. in the area of Ninth Avenue North and Albert Street. The police report states that a suspect vehicle sideswiped the victim vehicle and drove away. The victim was able to follow the suspect, who was driving a Kia Niro, as police were on their way.

Officers located the suspect vehicle at Ross Avenue and Winnipeg Street, but the vehicle did not stop and ran a red light. After an unsuccessful attempt to stop the suspect in the area of Fleet Street and Victoria Avenue, a spike belt deployed on Ring Road by Dewdney Avenue managed to bring the vehicle to a stop.

The suspect driver was transported to hospital by paramedics after an apparent self-inflicted physical injury was sustained. Police released the man with conditions. His name has not been released, however RPS say he is from the Regina area.

The individual’s charges of failure to remain at the scene of a collision and dangerous driving are pending.
