Dr. Jeff Keshen has started his tenure as the eighth president of the University of Regina. Keshen comes in at an interesting time as not only his institution but others start transitioning back to near-normal operations with plans to do that on a full-time basis in January 2022.
While that is first on his plate, Keshen says there are many things that makes the U of R what he feels is a very dynamic place for those wanting to continue their education.
“The University of Regina is a dynamic, comprehensive university with a wide variety of programs and a tremendous amount of research happening in key areas. It really is a place that is well-positioned both locally, provincially and nationally.” Keshen said in an interview with 620 CKRM on Monday. “As a university, we need to look at connecting to a wider variety of people using the technology available. That opens the door to a wider demographic; serving people in their communities; and increasing accessibility to education. We want to raise the recognition and the reputation.”
Keshen says many know of the great things that are happening in the 10 faculties and 25 departments that the University has, but he says what he wants to do is tell the story more widely because they will be amazed at everything that is happening when it comes to the issues of the day like indigenization, PTSD, and mental health.
Keshen, who was named to the position back in March, comes to Regina after serving as vice-president at Memorial University in Newfoundland.
