Don’t look for a potential partnership between the CFL and XFL anytime soon.
The CFL has issued a statement saying while talks have been positive, the two sides have opted against making any formal agreements regarding a merger at this time.
In that statement, Commissioner Randy Ambrosie says talks with the XFL, exploring the potential for collaboration and innovation, have been positive and constructive and that while we remain open to finding new ways to work together in the future, we have jointly decided to not pursue any formal arrangements at this time.
The statement adds the league is now squarely focused on the 2021 regular season which begins August 5.
