KrugoFest set up begins in downtown Regina

KrugoFest kicks off this weekend at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel parkade rooftop.

Krugo CEO Kirk Morrison says while the provincial restrictions will change on July 11, not much will change from one set of weekend shows to the next.

“I think largely what will change might be what folks do before and what they might choose to do after these shows are over,” Morrison said. “We fully expect on on that second weekend we’re going to have restaurants and bars with longer, extended hours — back to some of those normal hours — so we fully expect that post-show we might see more folks heading out into the city and bringing downtown back to life, which is what we’re really excited to see.”

Ticket holders will get a chance to see the show from a private hotel room balcony on the north side of the hotel, all in support of the Regina Food Bank. The hope is to raise 90,000 meals from this event.

Food Bank Vice-President David Froh says the pandemic saw a 140 percent increase in new users, but also displayed a willingness to find ways to support the food bank.

“The pandemic was challenging, but also inspiring, and that’s what KrugoFest is all about,” Froh said. “It’s about doing things differently, creatively, and helping to feed our neighbours and support the entertainment sector.”

Tourism Regina spokesperson Chris Bonk says this is the beginning of a real exciting summer for Regina.

“KrugoFest gives us an opportunity to do things safely, and we’ve got a great opportunity right now to get people out and do things that — while we’re under restrictions for this first weekend — we wouldn’t otherwise be able to do.”

620 CKRM presents Gord Bamford and Doc Walker, with Bamford performing July 9 and Doc Walker taking the stage July 16. Tickets are still available for both shows.

Our sister-station, 104.9 The Wolf, presents The Sheepdogs performing on July 10 and Big Wreck on July 17. Both shows are almost sold out.
