Two men arrested in Friday armed robbery

Regina Police have laid charges against two men involved in an armed robbery downtown.

One of the men is also facing charges related to another armed robbery on June 29th.

On Friday morning, just after 11:00 am, police responded to a bank on the 1900 block of Hamilton Street for a report of a robbery. It is believed a lone man entered the business armed with a firearm, demanded money and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The man was seen leaving the area in a vehicle. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Investigation led police to finding a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle the next day. Spike belts were used on the vehicle, but the driver did not stop for police.

Police continued to follow the vehicle on Rochdale Boulevard onto Highway 11. The vehicle continued to travel northbound on Highway 11 eventually coming to a stop in the town of Lumsden. The two occupants were taken into custody.

As a result, 36-year-old Alex Desjarlais has been charged with armed robbery using a restricted firearm, use of a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence, disguise with intent, possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm knowing it’s unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a loaded firearm, 2 counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, 2 counts of flight from police, 2 counts of operating a conveyance dangerous to the public, and the possession of property obtained by crime.

32-year-old Brendan Hein has been charged with armed robbery using a restricted firearm, uttering threats, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Desjarlais is also facing charges stemming from another armed robbery on June 29th. Those charges are 2 counts of robbery with a prohibited firearm, use of a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence, disguise with intent, possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm or ammo contrary to prohibition.

Both men made their first court appearances Monday morning.
