Sask. cattlemen face serious problems due to drought

Saskatchewan cattlemen are considering asking for a disaster declaration due to drought.

Cattlemen’s Association chair Arnold Balicki of Shellbrook says many producers are facing feed and water shortages because of hot dry weather.

His association is pushing hard for a meeting with the federal and provincial governments to seek some support.

Balicki says some producers are being forced to sell off their cattle and are seeking tax deferrals for cattlemen.

He is surprised at the extent of the drought across Western Canada.
