The FSIN says public health orders need to be restored to try and control a COVID-19 outbreak on the Buffalo Dene River First Nation, about 540 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.

In a release, chief Bobby Cameron says the community is battling the virus due to the lack of public health orders and restrictions in place.

While encouraging anyone in the area who hasn’t been vaccinated to do so, the FSIN says more health support staff is needed, and that the RCMP must get involved by enforcing health and safety protocols.

They add that Chief Elmer Campbell, is running out of options, and deaths could increase if something isn’t done.

The far northwest is responsible for 103 of Saskatchewan’s 356 active cases right now.
