The Saskatchewan Government is investing in long-term care beds in Regina.

In a release Wednesday morning, the province says it is moving forward with a plan to develop approximately 600 long-term care beds in Regina, to meet the needs of seniors and build capacity for the future.

Of those beds, 250 will be for residents with dementia, mental health needs and complex behavioral needs.

The remaining 350 beds will be dedicated to “standard long-term care”.

“We are committed to providing the best possible services for residents who need long-term care in Regina and area,” Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Seniors, and Rural and Remote Health Everett Hindley said in a release. “This significant project to add new beds will meet their needs and ensure safe and healthy environments for both residents and staff.”

Timelines for construction of the specialized beds will be confirmed later this year.
