Those in southern Sask should get great view of Perseid Meteor Shower

One of the best meteor showers of the year should be visible to those in Southern Saskatchewan tonight and tomorrow.
With clear skies in the forecast, the Perseid Meteor Shower should deliver quite the show to skywatchers
Gary Boyle of Ottawa refers to himself as “The Backyard Astronomer” .  He says this means you may stay up late, but if you do, you should see a good light show.
“The Perseids will actually produce some fireballs. These are pea-sized grains that are hitting the atmosphere so the larger the impact, the brighter the flash ” Boyle said. “The best time to see 50 to 60 meteors per hour  shooting through the sky will be around midnight.
Boyle recommends you get out of the city to get the full view of the shower so that lights don’t interfere with anything.
Along with Perseids, Boyle says brace yourself for the beauty of the Milky Way.

“Our galaxy has an estimated 300 billion stars. Using a grain of ordinary table salt to represent a star. You would have to fill a sandbox 20 feet by 20 feet, by one foot high to equal that amount of stars.” Boyle said.
