Sask. Agriculture Minister pushes grain companies to be flexible with farmers facing crop failure

Agriculture Minister David Marit is asking grain companies to be flexible with farmers who are facing crop failure and can’t fill grain delivery contracts.

Some farm leaders have raised concerns about contract penalties for non-delivery.

Marit says he is pushing grain companies to be flexible, and some have rolled over the contracts to next year.

Wheat Growers Director Jim Wickett says some companies are charging what he calls exorbitant administration fees of $40 to $65 per ton.
