CN Rail is reporting record grain movement for the crop year ending August 1st.
Sales and marketing director David Przednowek says CN moved more than 31 million metric tons of grain to market last crop year, up from the 29.4 million ton record set the previous year.
“In spite of all the challenges, CN moved over 31 million metric tonnes of Canadian grain via carload in the 2020-21 crop year, exceeding the previous record set in 2019-20 by over 1.6 million tonnes,” said Przednowek. “That also exceeds the upper end of the 27.5 million to 29.5 million range of grain movement CN had projected in our 2019 grain plan.”
Shednovik says CN is adding close to 200 grain cars per week this crop year for grain movement.
However, he says the drought could have an impact on the amount of grain for export.
