Meili successful in leadership review

Saskatchewan’s NDP will carry on with its current leader.

On Saturday at the party’s convention,  72 percent of delegates voted against holding a leadership review that would have seen Ryan Meili be replaced.

This means Meili will lead the NDP into the next provincial election where the party will hope for better fortunes.

After a disappointing result in the last provincial election where the NDP failed to gain any seats and Meili barely hang on to his seat,  a report suggested “too many working people no longer see the NDP as their party, ”and that a more concerted effort was needed to speak directly to the core issues working families care most about.

After losing the last two provincial elections before this, the NDP did change leaders.  Some believed continuing that course of action is not what the party needs and what is needed is stability.
