Former Manitoba Premier Brain Pallister resigns as MLA

Former Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister has resigned his seat in the legislature, formally ending his career in politics.

Pallister announced the move less than two months after he stepped down as Manitoba’s premier.

The 67-year-old left the premier’s office amid low polling numbers and controversy over his government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pallister, who was the MLA for Fort Whyte, said that he would be leaving his seat before Manitoba’s legislature reconvened for fall sitting, which is scheduled to start on Wednesday.
