New COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan take significant drop

For the first time since September 9, Saskatchewan is recording under 300 new cases of COVID-19.

The province is reporting 242 new infections on Tuesday.  Of the 242, 194 are in people that are not vaccinated including 40 under the age of 11 who can’t be vaccinated due to their age.

While that news is promising, there are also sadly 10 new deaths to report bringing the provincial total to 726.

There were 482 recoveries which brings the active case count down to 4,385.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (8), Far North East (10), North West (35), North Central (12), North East (10), Saskatoon (59), Central West (6), Central East (16), Regina (8), South West (11), South Central (14) and South East (14) zones and thirty-nine (39) new cases have pending residence information.

There are 340 people in hospital being treated for the virus which once again is a record-high.  Of those 340, 73 are in the ICU and 259 of them were not fully vaccinated.

There were 1,572 vaccines administered Monday. 751 of those were first doses.

The province also released September COVID-19 numbers on Tuesday.  They show:

  • Of the 13,141 cases reported in September, 10,237 (77.9 per cent) were unvaccinated or tested positive within three weeks of receiving their first vaccination.  Nine hundred and thirteen cases (6.9 per cent) were partially vaccinated with one dose, while 2,904 cases (22.1 per cent) were fully vaccinated. Of the 2,904 cases with a second dose, 11 per cent (320) had comorbid conditions and 21.2 per cent (616) were 70 years and older.
  • Of the 449 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, 348 (77.6 per cent) were unvaccinated or tested positive within three weeks of receiving their first vaccination. Twenty cases (4.5 per cent) were partially vaccinated with one dose, while 101 cases (22.5 per cent) were fully vaccinated.
  • Of the 449 individuals hospitalized in September, 13 were 19 years and younger and 12 were 12 years and younger.
  • Of the 83 individuals admitted to ICU, 73 (87.9 per cent) were unvaccinated or tested positive within three weeks of receiving their first vaccination. Two cases (2.4 per cent) were partially vaccinated with one dose, while 10 cases (12 per cent) were fully vaccinated.
  • Of the 83 individuals admitted to ICU, four were 19 years and younger and two were 12 years and younger.
  • Among the cases reported in September, 72 individuals passed away; 35 were unvaccinated or less than three weeks after their first vaccination.
