APAS launches task force to prepare for next federal-provincial farm policy framework

APAS has launched a task force to work on a new five year federal-provincial agriculture funding agreement.

President Todd Lewis says the federal-provincial agriculture ministers will discuss the next farm policy framework at a meeting next month.

He says improvements are needed for farm support programs like agristability and agri-recovery.

Lewis says increased funding is needed for farm support programs because farmers are facing higher risks in weather and trade.

Lewis says the new program would take effect following the end of the current federal provincial funding agreement in March 2023.

The six member APAS task force comes from various farming backgrounds and covers regions across the Saskatchewan grainbelt.
