Regina man charged after assaulting taxi driver before stealing cab

A 19-year-old Regina man has been charged after assaulting a taxi driver before stealing their cab.

Around 9:30 a.m. Friday morning police were called to the 1100 block of Angus Street after learning a man had been trying to break into vehicles.

When officers arrived they witnessed the suspect assault the driver and steal his cab.

Police say they attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect was able to evade police, however shortly after the man crashed the car into a fence and was arrested while attempting to flee on foot.

As a result 19-year-old Desmond Key, has been charged with robbery, flight from a peace officer, operating a conveyance dangerous to the public, and failing to comply with conditions of a release order.

Key is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, October 12.

Police say the taxi driver did not suffer any serious injuries.
